UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust (UAWRMBT) Assumed Health Care Coverage for Retirees effective 01-01-2010

The UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust (VEBA) began providing retirees with health care coverage on January 1, 2010. Retirees should be using their medical and prescription ID cards they received in December 2009. Until the end of 2009, you were calling Benefit Express for a variety of requests in conjunction with your heath care coverage as a retiree. From now on however, you should call Retiree Health Care Connect (RHCC) at 1-866-number 1637-7555 with requests regarding retiree health care coverage.

Benefit Express is not going away, however. Retirees will continue to call Benefit Express for Pension benefits, Life Insurance and Legal Services.

The table below shows which phone number you should call for a given situation, or when you need information, beginning on January 1, 2010.

MEDCO: Prescription Drug Insurer for All Retirees

Medco has replaced Caremark-CVS as the prescription drug insurance company for retirees. The transfer of prescription records from Caremark-CVS to Medco should be completed by January 15. If you have remaining refills on your mail order prescriptions, just call Medco at 1-866-662-0274 and they will mail your order to your home.

Medco will not have information about refills for prescription drugs purchased at participating local retail pharmacies. Therefore, if you are about due for a refill at your participating retail pharmacy for a 30-day supply drugs, you will need to contact your doctor’s office to obtain a new prescription for those drugs, and take them to your participating local retail pharmacy to get them filled.

Starting January 1, 2010, you will no longer be able to pick up your 90-day supply of prescription drugs at your local retail CVS pharmacy. You may take one of the following actions to order your 90-day supply prescriptions to be mailed to your home:

  • Obtain a written prescription from your physician and mail it directly to Medco at:

               Medco Health Solutions
               P.O. Box 747000
               Cincinnati, OH 45274-7000

NOTE: Enclose a separate note in the envelope stating your member ID number that appears on your Medco ID card, the name and date of birth of the person the prescription is for, ordering physician's name and phone number, and your mailing address and daytime phone number.

  • Request a new prescription by contacting your physician and asking him/her to call Medco’s EASYRX line at 1(888)327-9791.

  • Print a fax form by logging into www.medco.com. Once logged in, you can click on the link at the left for "Forms" or "Forms and Card." Scroll down to the next link of "Print and bring a fax form." Print the form and take it to your doctor’s office to be completed and faxed to Medco’s home delivery pharmacy by your physician.
  • You may also call Medco at 1-866-662-0274 and ask them to contact your doctor to request your prescription to be faxed to Medco.

Wisconsin retirees please take notice that Humana IS NOT your prescription drug company, despite the fact that Humana’s name appears on the prescription drug ID cards you received from Medco. Those ID cards are perfectly fine, however, and should be used for local retail purchases and mail orders.

Prior Authorization records are also transferred to Medco from Caremark-CVS. If you had received prior authorization for a certain drug before January 1, 2010, and if your request for refilling that drug is now denied, you should call Medco at 1-866-662-0274. If Medco informs you that they do not have any indication of a prior authorization, you need to contact your physician’s office to have a new prior authorization request sent to Medco.

Information regarding prescriptions that have expired, have run out of refills, are controlled substances, or specially prepared medications, will not be transferred to Medco. You need to start over by taking the appropriate action for each of these situations.

If you are taking medications that are controlled substances or are specially prepared, you should contact your doctor to start the prescription order process all over again.

Similarly, if your prior authorization has expired, ask your doctor to sumbit a new request for a prior authorization to Medco.

It will generally take the number of days specified in the table below for your mail order medication to be delivered to you; depending on the method utilized for placing the order.

11-14 days

for new prescriptions mailed to Medco

8-11 days

for new prescriptions faxed to Medco by your doctor

5-7 days

for refills when you reorder online or by calling Medco

If you have immediate need for one or more of the mail order prescriptions that you send to Medco, please contact your physician's office to obtain a prescription for a short term 14 day supply. This short-term supply may be filled at your local participating pharmacy.
