A Union Born Fighting
Welcome to UAW Local 72's website. Local 72 was chartered in 1935 as one of the founding Locals of the UAW. For 75 years, Local 72 represented workers in Kenosha, Wisconsin at the auto manufacturing facility owned by Nash, American Motors and Chrysler. The Chrysler plant closed in 2010. Currently, Local 72 is an amalgamated Local representing workers at Palmen Motors in Kenosha and Wisconsin Metal Products in Racine, Wisconsin.

On November 9 1933, workers in Final Assembly at Nash Motors sat down on the job to protest an unfair wage system.  A two week strike followed which resulted in agreement by Nash to recognize Federal Labor Union 19008.  In 1935, Local 19008 helped found the United Auto Workers and was chartered as UAW Local 72.
